Before we ship your order, you get to decide how your garment is finished. Each option affects the look, the dressing experience, and the immediate wearability. Here’s what they mean—so you can pick the one that matches your style and patience level.
Dry + Talcum Powder (Default – Recommended for First-Timers)
What it is:
Your garment arrives lightly powdered inside with unscented talcum. The exterior is matte—not shiny—which is the safest, most neutral state for storage and transit.
Why we ship this way by default:
Powder keeps the latex from sticking to itself during shipping and prevents the material from “sweating” in the bag. It’s a clean, stable starting point.
What you do next:
- Apply your preferred dressing aid (powder or silicone) to get into the garment.
- Once worn, apply an external polish (silicone spray or liquid) to achieve your desired shine.
- Experiment! This is the best option if you’re new to latex, because it gives you total freedom to try different shine products until you find your favorite.

Shine Silicone Outside (Polish Only)
What it is:
We apply a high-quality silicone polish to the exterior of your garment before shipping. The inside remains uncoated (dry powder or neutral).
The look:
Your latex arrives with a glossy, wet-look finish—ready to turn heads straight out of the box. No need to polish it yourself before your first wear.
Our take on silicone:
Pure silicone is, in our opinion, an excellent polish. It lasts long, feels pleasant to the touch (not tacky), and gives that iconic latex gleam. We prefer food-grade silicone—safe, stable, and effective.
Where to find silicone if you DIY:
- Spray silicone is available at leather stores and most scuba diving shops. (Spray cans can leave a cloudy mist—use in a well-ventilated area!)
- Liquid silicone (bottles) is widely available at adult stores and online.
Keep in mind:
This option focuses on external shine only. You’ll still need a dressing aid (powder or lube) to get into the garment—unless you choose the next option.
Dressing Aid Silicone Inside + Shine Silicone Outside (Full Silicone Treatment)
What it is:
The full package. We apply silicone polish to the exterior and silicone dressing aid to the interior. Your garment arrives almost wearable—just step in and go (with care).
The advantage:
- No need to powder or lube up before your first wear.
- External shine is already applied.
- Perfect if you want that “ready for the club/photo shoot” experience immediately.
The catch (important):
Silicone dressing aids break down over time. Do not leave your garment stored this way for weeks or months—the silicone can degrade the latex if left in contact for too long.
- Wear it soon after arrival.
- After use, wash it thoroughly (see our Care Guide) to remove the internal silicone before storage.
- This is a pre-wear convenience, not a long-term storage solution.
Chlorination (Chemical Surface Treatment – Not Generally Recommended)
What it is:
A chemical bath (chlorine + ammonia) alters the surface of the latex, closing its pores and making it feel silky-smooth and slick to the touch. It’s a permanent change to the material.
The good:
- No powder or silicone needed for dressing—it glides onto dry skin effortlessly.
- Reduces tackiness—great if you hate the sticky feel of natural latex.
- Makes the garment less likely to attract dust.
The bad (why we hesitate):
- Brittleness: Chlorination can make the latex slightly more rigid and less elastic over time.
- Repairs are difficult: If it tears, patching is tricky—the chemical change affects how adhesives bond.
- Warranty limitation: Because it’s an experimental process, we do not warranty chlorinated garments the same way as our standard pieces.
- Irreversible: You can’t “unchlorinate” it later.
Our stance:
We don’t generally recommend chlorination for everyday wear. However, enough customers request it that we offer it as an option—just be aware of the trade-offs before selecting it.
A Note on the Products We Use
At Latex Addicts, all silicone oils (both shine and dressing aid) come from the trusted German brand VIVISHINE. They’ve been the gold standard in latex care for years—reliable, consistent, and formulated specifically for rubber.
